Scholarship
Starting in 2011, the Boston Alumnae Chapter began an annual scholarship to allow collegiate members from chapters in the Phi B province access to financial assistance for their college education.
In 2016, the Boston Alumnae Chapter voted to officially name our annual scholarship The Joan Reddy Memorial Scholarship.
Joan Reddy Memorial Scholarship 23-24
The recipient of the Joan Reddy Memorial Scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be applied to their Spring 2024 educational expenses. This scholarship is in memory of Joan Reddy, a beloved sister of the Boston Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.
All components of this application must be received by the Scholarship Committee by December 1, 2023. The committee will select the recipient on December 15, 2023. If you have any questions, please email scholarship@bostonalumnaechapter.org.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Must be an initiated member of Sigma Alpha Iota and currently in either a collegiate or alumnae chapter within the Phi B province
Must be in good financial standing with the chapter and current with both national and local dues
Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student for the full 23-24 academic year (enrolled full-time for both Fall and Spring)
May be from any degree program; a music degree is not required
Must not have received this scholarship in any prior years
If selected as the recipient, must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for their current degree at the end of the Fall 2023 semester. An unofficial transcript will be required prior to disbursement of scholarship funds.

The submission of this online application
A letter of recommendation that attests to your musical service or dedication to SAI at the local, regional, or national level. The letter must be sent directly from the referee to scholarship@bostonalumnaechapter.org and the person must be one of the following: a faculty member at your school, one of your chapter's advisors, or a member of your current SAI chapter
Complete the following essay: Please explain in 500 words or less how you have or will utilize at least 1 of the 22-25 SAI National Objectives within your community (at home or at school) this academic year.
Submit one of the following musical examples:
A video of the applicant performing one work of their choice from an American composer (accompaniment is optional).
A link to an ensemble performance in which the applicant participated and the piece is from an American composer.
A video of a presentation, lecture or demonstration involving an American music-related topic or project. If no web-based visual is available, an applicant may submit a written description and supporting materials (such as programs, reviews, PowerPoint outline).
